Woodings Will Deliver Guns, Drills and Valves for Severstal "B" Furnace Upgrade The operation of a blast furnace is only as good as its systems and equipment. With that in mind, Woodings Industrial is confident that the soon to be upgraded “B” blast furnace at Severstal NA Dearborn facility will be a very good system indeed. Woodings has been selected to provide the steelmaker with variety of equipment for the recently announced furnace upgrade.
Woodings Double Block and Bleed Valves Headed to Severstal NA Severstal North America, Inc. continues to make good on its commitment to upgrade and improve its Dearborn facility and is continuing to count on Woodings for much of the new equipment for that facility.
Woodings is supplying a large order of valves for use on the “C” blast furnace upgrade project as replacements for existing valves.
First Battery Powered Tuyere Cart They keep going and going and... With the introduction of a battery-powered tuyere cart, Woodings Industrial has yet again created another “first” for the metal making machinery industry.
US Steel Canada Goes Big with Woodings Goggle Valve US Steel Canada is thinking big. The steelmaker has just placed an order for the design and manufacture of a very large goggle valve from Woodings Industrial.
The valve, which measures up at 102” x 90”, will be designed and built by Woodings and will feature hydraulic operation for the clamp/unclamp system and electro-mechanical operation for the goggle plate open/close system. Also, included with the valve is a built-in fabricated expansion joint.
DTE Energy to Get an 85-foot Push from Woodings Woodings Industrial Corporation, a worldwide leader in the manufacture of metals industry equipment, delivered a new Coke Oven Ram Pusher to the DTE Energy facility on Zug Island in Detroit, Michigan.
Used to push coke out of the oven when the production cycle is complete, the Woodings Coke Oven Ram Pusher is an 85-foot long fabricated beam assembly. Designed and manufactured by Woodings, the Pusher utilizes special steel to meet critical straightness tolerances. For the DTE Energy Pusher, the tolerances are very tight 1/8th inch. The unit is hydraulically driven and features a carbon cutter on the ram head for longer life and for easier repairs. This is the second pusher ram that Woodings has supplied to DTE.
Severstal Turns To Woodings For Next Generation In Burden Distribution In this frenetic era of steelmaking, the increasingly competitive environment within the industry has led to some very dynamic and outright amazing innovations in the steelmaking process, beginning, literally, from the top down. One of the innovations comes from Woodings Industrial, a long-time innovator in metalworking equipment, which has been selected by Severstal North America, to provide a new Hydraulic Distributor unit for the steelmaker’s “L” furnace at its Sparrows Point operation.
Hot Stuff! Woodings Delivers 2 New Valves to USS Gary Woodings Industrial Corporation has recently delivered two new Hot Blast Valves to US Steel for their rebuild of the #14 furnace at the company’s Gary Works.
The high-efficiency 66” valves are completely water-cooled and feature high velocity water passage which minimizes settlement of material from cooling water.
USS Fairfield Taps Woodings for Drills As part of a project for U.S. Steel-Fairfield works’ # 8 Blast Furnace rebuild, Woodings has manufactured and delivered two new all-hydraulic taphole drill rigs.
The all-hydraulic drills provide some dramatic benefits for US Steel Fairfield including faster drill cycles, a more stable tap hole and longer tap times. The drill, which utilizes the Woodings HC105 drifter, has more torque and high-frequency, low-impact force to handle today’s harder clays.
The drifter has the maximum rotational torque available with high frequency impactors capable of operating with 50% to 100% impact energy. Therefore, impact energy may be reduced to the minimum requirements for opening the taphole. This method provides a smooth consistent diameter taphole that is opened very quickly and that does not damage refractory.
Great Big Order for US Steel-Great Lakes Overhauling a blast furnace stove is a big job. In the case of the B-2 overhaul for US Steel-Great Lakes, no less than 27 valves were ordered from Woodings. The equipment includes two hot blast valves, three chimney valves, ten lever valves, four double eccentric valves, six regulating butterfly valves and two goggle valves—all designed, engineered and manufactured by Woodings.
The valves feature a variety of design elements that contribute to smooth, uninterrupted daily production and long-term performance.
A worldwide leader in the manufacture of metals industry equipment, Woodings uses the most current technologies to design, engineer and manufacture an extensive line of traditional and not-so-traditional hot metal equipment, such as tap hole drills, clay guns, tuyere stocks, blast furnace valves, hydraulic charging units (BF top equipment), and specialty products for continuous casters.
Woodings is the exclusive supplier of Grabe overlay components in North America and has plants at its headquarters in Mars and Harmony, Pa., along with offices in Detroit, Mich. and Gary, Ind.
